The composition sketch: draw your thumbnail's layout
Describing a layout in words is painful: "logo top left, a bit smaller, title below, me on the right". The result never lands exactly where you wanted. With the sketch, you draw the layout in ten seconds and the AI follows it.Open the sketch
In the composer bar, click Sketch. The "Composition sketch" window opens on a 16:9 canvas, the thumbnail's format, with a rule-of-thirds grid to guide you.Draw the layout
The tools are simple:- Rectangle for an area (the logo, the title, a banner)
- Circle for where your face goes
- Arrow to direct the eye
- Text to write a word that must appear
- Eraser to remove a shape
Drop your face and your images
You can drop your face, or any of your images, as a sticker: place it, scale it, move it into the circle you drew.Add the sketch as a reference
Click Add as reference. The sketch becomes a SKETCH chip in the composer bar, and the@sketch1 token is added to the prompt. Generate: the AI respects where the title goes, where the logo sits, where your face is.
In the video, the sketch frames the JEV logo on the left, writes REVOLUTION top right and points an arrow at the face in the center. The generated thumbnail follows that exact plan.
The sketch is a guide, not a drawing to reproduce: rectangles and arrows are never drawn into the thumbnail. A rough draft is enough.
Good to know
The sketch counts as a reference: you can use up to six per generation, sketch included. Open a project in YouThumb and sketch the plan of your next thumbnail.Related Articles
