Agents

Connect your AI agent to YouThumb and create thumbnails through conversation. The youthumb-api skill teaches the agent how to use the YouThumb API: upload a logo, set up a person, create a thumbnail project, launch the generation and fetch the result. Your agent works with the same account as the application. It uses your credits, and the projects it creates are the ones you see in YouThumb.

Choose your agent

Install the YouThumb skill

Run this command in your terminal from the workspace you use with your agent. You need Node.js and npm available to run npx.
bash
npx skills add https://github.com/mikecodeur/skills --skill youthumb-api
Follow the installer to choose your agent and installation scope. Installing the skill provides instructions; it does not grant access to your YouThumb account.

Generate an API key

  1. Sign in to YouThumb and open Account → API Keys.
  2. Create a key.
  3. Store it securely and make it available to the agent as YOUTHUMB_API_KEY.
bash
export YOUTHUMB_API_KEY="your-api-key"
The agent calls https://www.youthumb.ai and sends the key in the x-api-key header. Keep the key out of source control and shared prompts. It is a YouThumb key, separate from your Claude or OpenAI credentials. Start with a request that reads without generating:
text
Use the youthumb-api skill. List my persons and the available presets.
Do not create or generate anything yet.

What your agent can do

  • Assets: upload images such as logos, screenshots or product photos, list them and delete them.
  • Persons: create a person and add face photos, then reuse it in your thumbnails.
  • Thumbnail projects: create a project with a prompt, a person, a title and up to five reference images, referenced in the prompt as @image1, @image2…
  • Generation: start a generation with 1 to 4 variations, follow its status and download the resulting images.
  • Reference data: list the available templates and presets.
The API does not expose every application feature. The composition sketch, prompt improvement, comparison, favorites and trash are used in the app.

Keep control of credits

Creating a project does not use credits; starting the generation does. Ask your agent to show you the project before launching it, and to start with one variation. A 402 response means your credits are insufficient. The API is rate limited. Ask the agent to wait between calls and not to retry in a loop. You can revoke the key from Account → API Keys when the integration is no longer needed. See the Developer API for endpoints and error codes.
