Hermes

Connect Hermes Agent to YouThumb to set up your person once, then generate thumbnail variations from a simple request. The skill explains the available endpoints, the credit rules and the limits of what the agent can do.

Install the skill for Hermes Agent

From the workspace where you use Hermes, run:
bash
npx skills add https://github.com/mikecodeur/skills --skill youthumb-api
Choose Hermes Agent when prompted. To select it explicitly:
bash
npx skills add https://github.com/mikecodeur/skills --skill youthumb-api --agent hermes-agent
Its explicit agent identifier is hermes-agent. Install the skill where your Hermes runtime can access it, then open a new session and ask it to use youthumb-api.

Connect your YouThumb account

In YouThumb, open Account → API Keys and create a key. Make it available as YOUTHUMB_API_KEY in the agent's execution environment:
bash
export YOUTHUMB_API_KEY="your-api-key"
Installing a skill does not configure credentials. Keep the key out of committed files and make sure Hermes can reach https://www.youthumb.ai over HTTPS.

Set up your person

text
Use the youthumb-api skill. Create a person named "Mike" and add the
three face photos in ./faces, one request at a time.
Clear, well-lit photos from a few angles give the best results. You only do this once; the person is then available in the app too.

Generate variations

text
Create a thumbnail with my person "Mike", the free preset, the title
"BUILD IT" and 3 variations. Show me the project before starting.
After you confirm, Hermes starts the generation, waits for completion and returns the three image URLs. Open the project in YouThumb to compare the variations side by side and keep the best one.

Recover from errors

If a request times out while creating a project, ask Hermes to check the existing projects before trying again, so it does not create a duplicate. For endpoint details, see the Developer API.

Troubleshooting

  • Skill not found: check the installation scope and start a new session where the skill was installed.
  • 401: check the key and whether it was revoked. The API is strictly rate limited, so a 401 right after many calls can also mean the agent should wait before trying again.
  • 402: your credits are insufficient for the generation.
  • 429: too many calls; ask the agent to wait 30 to 45 seconds instead of retrying in a loop.
See Agents and the Developer API.
